Clay insulation

Feeling good in your own four walls

Information:
Due to its properties, clay is very suitable for interior wall insulation.
Pre-masonry
  • Lightweight clay filling
  • Panel insulation
  • such as reed, wood fiber, mineral foam boards, hemp, etc.

Areas of application:
  • External insulation
  • Internal insulation

External insulation:
  • Insulation of external walls should only be used for buildings where external insulation is not possible for structural or monument conservation reasons.
Internal insulation:
  • Internal wall insulation always represents a compromise. Due to its properties, clay is very suitable for internal wall insulation. Before internal wall insulation is installed, the external wall to be insulated should be checked for the following.

  • Exposure to driving rain (possibly dampening of walls)
  • Moisture in the base
  • Old paintwork (possibly blocking layers)
  • Load-bearing capacity of old plaster
  • Gypsum plasters are not suitable for clay interior insulation and must be removed
Information:
  • Due to its properties, clay is very suitable for interior insulation, especially in half-timbered and sandstone/quarry stone houses
  • Pre-masonry
  • Lightweight clay filling
  • Board insulation such as reed, wood fibre, mineral foam boards, etc.
  • Insulating plaster

Areas of application:
  • Internal insulation of external walls
  • Can be used partially as insulation for the exterior facade

Lightweight clay filling

Information:
Lightweight clay insulation
For this interior insulation, a slatted construction is attached to the existing wall to attach the Harundo reed fabric. The space between is filled with a Terra Forma lightweight clay fill.
For thicker layers, we recommend using rough-sawn formwork instead of Harundo reed fabric.
This insulation system is particularly advantageous when insulating half-timbered or quarry stone masonry. Lightweight clay fills even out the rarely straight wall surfaces and at the same time ensure better thermal insulation and heat storage. The surface temperature of the wall is increased.

We mix Terra Forma lightweight clay fill with various additives and different weight classes, depending on the customer's requirements:
  • Expanded clay
  • Expanded glass
  • straw
  • Hemp shivs
  • Flax shives
  • Spelt husks
  • cork
  • Miscanthus

Weight per m³ of 350-800 kg possible

Information:
With this interior insulation, a substructure is placed on the existing wall to attach the Harundo reed fabric. The space between them is filled with a lightweight clay fill.

TerraForma®

Wood fibreboard

Information:
This interior insulation system incorporates a wood fibre insulation board into clay plaster.

The system has optimal capillary conductivity and a high condensate storage capacity.
No vapor barrier is used in this construction.
Instead of wood fibre boards, Harundo reed insulation or cork insulation boards can also be used.

TerraForma®

Wood fibreboard

Information:
With this interior insulation system, a reed panel is integrated into our Terra Forma clay leveling plaster.

The reed is tied with galvanized wire or string without any further additives.
Hardly any waste is generated during production. The panels can be easily reused. The reed products can be biodegraded (composting is no problem) or thermally recycled.

Can also be used as external insulation with our Terra Forma clay adhesive and our Terra Forma clay exterior plaster or lime plasterWe used this external insulation in our office building.

Instead of reed panels, straw, wood fiber, cork, coconut or mineral foam panels can also be used.

Vormauerung

Information:
In this construction, a masonry shell is built from lightweight clay bricks. The cavity is backfilled with Terra Forma lightweight clay fill.
Advantage
quick leveling of uneven exterior walls
short drying time
Prevention of uncontrolled air layers between the outer wall and the facing brickwork.
