Straw and clay
Course content:
This workshop provides an introduction and, in the theoretical part, imparts basic knowledge about straw construction in statically load-bearing wooden structures as well as load-bearing straw construction and working with clay on straw.
In the practical part, the straw installation is carried out in prefabrication and in oriented wooden construction as well as load-bearing and the plastering of the straw bales with clay.
In the theoretical part we will deal with questions of planning and implementation of details and connections, electrical systems, fastenings, air and wind tightness, building physics, statics, different wooden structures and the correct selection and processing of straw bales themselves. What quality features must a straw bale have as a building material? How can and must it be processed in order to fulfil the function of a wall element? What is the difference between straw construction and using straw bales “only” as thermal insulation? The seminar is aimed at everyone who wants to learn about straw bale construction not only theoretically but above all practically.
